Georgia welcomes the Delegation of Mauritius and thanks the Honourable Maneesh Gobin, Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms for the presentation of the national report.
We note with appreciation steps taken by the Government of Mauritius to implement the recommendations from previous UPR cycle. In this regard, Georgia welcomes issuing of the standing invitation to special mandate holders and Ratification of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa.
We acknowledge steps taken with regard to women’s increased participation in politics and encourage the Government of Mauritius to further enhance its efforts to empower women and promote gender equality at all levels.
Georgia welcomes efforts made by the Government of Mauritius in term of children protection and encourage to accelerate its efforts to this end.
While recognizing achievements made by the Government of Mauritius, Georgia would like to make the following recommendations:
· To step up efforts to ensure full access to education for Creol-speaking children.
· To intensify efforts aimed at improving detention conditions in prison.
· To accelerate its efforts towards eliminating violence against women and to consider adopting relevant legislation.
