Revaz Lominadze, in his capacity as Coordinator of the Eastern European Group of the UN Human Rights Council, held a meeting with the Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

On 19 January 2026, in Geneva, Revaz Lominadze, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations, acting in his capacity as Coordinator of the Eastern European Group of the UN Human Rights Council, held a meeting-at the request of the Permanent Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela-with the Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Ambassador Alexander Yánez Deleuze.

The Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela spoke about the ongoing processes in Venezuela. The Georgian side noted that Georgia is closely monitoring developments in the country and expressed hope that further processes will proceed with due consideration of the interests of the Venezuelan people.

At the same time, the Georgian side emphasized that Venezuela’s recognition of Georgia’s occupied regions-Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia-as independent states constitutes a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law. The Georgian side expressed hope that recent developments in Venezuela will contribute to a review and revocation of this unlawful decision, in accordance with Georgia’s national interests and the norms of international law.
