Revaz Lominadze took part in a high-level event on Artificial Intelligence and Children’s Rights

On January 19, 2026,Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Revaz Lominadze, took part in a high-level event on Artificial Intelligence and Children’s Rights, organized jointly by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

 

The event’s opening remarks were delivered by Kosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT). Other speakers included Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Sophie Kiladze, Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and Irakli Beridze, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Centre at the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

 

Panelists discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights and the challenges associated with AI use. The discussion highlighted the importance of safeguarding children’s rights, safety, and well-being, as well as the need for international cooperation and coordinated action in this area.

During the event, a joint statement was signed, aiming to ensure the protection of children’s rights, safety, and well-being in the development and use of AI, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and stressing the necessity of an effective legal and institutional framework.
