Official Visit of ICDO Secretary-General to Georgia

From May 31 to June 3, 2026, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Arguj Kalantharli, paid an official visit to Georgia, where he held meetings with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Gaga Kirkitaidze. The meetings were attended by Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Revaz Lominadze.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister, discussions focused on global security challenges and the importance of close coordination within international organizations.

It was noted that Georgia is actively involved in the organization’s activities as a member of the ICDO Executive Council. Emphasis was placed on the importance of practical cooperation in implementing training programs and initiatives aimed at improving professionalism. The meeting was also attended by Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, and Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.

During the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, the parties reviewed global challenges in the field of civil protection and highlighted the important role of the organization in this area. As part of the visit, the Secretary-General also visited the Emergency Situations Management Service’s Special Operations Main Division base, where a simulated demonstration event and an exhibition of firefighting and rescue special equipment were held. Arguj Kalantharly also visited the Public Safety Management Center “112”, where he was introduced to the emergency response operational management system and received detailed information about the unit’s activities.
